It had been a long time since we had enjoyed the experience of traveling. You already know that our obligations and responsibilities also take up most of our days and sometimes we forget how good it feels to get away from it all. Do you know who is joining us on this new adventure? Our friends the sea turtles!

A little history about sea turtles

Yes. I know what you're thinking. How are we going to travel with sea turtles if we all know how slow this animal is. However, what happens to them is that we are used to seeing them in an environment that is not theirs.

Do you know that student in your class who excels in mathematics but finds other subjects much more difficult? Surely it happens to you too... Well, the same happens to them. Those that always live on land are slow, but those that swim can reach 35 km/h. To give you an idea, it is the speed that a car travels when driving through a city. Pretty fast for a turtle, right?

But that is not what draws the most attention about this animal. Do you know how long they can live? Between 150 and 200 years! -Well, be patient!- some adults would say; such a long life and at such a slow pace... We, on the other hand, are sure that they are very happy going at their own pace. Don't you think?

There are also different species of sea turtles, such as the leatherback turtle and the green turtle, and they are found in various parts of the world. Furthermore, they make migrations like our friend the stork, and that is why we have dared to accompany them on their journey.

The shell that characterizes them allows them to protect themselves from other species and also acts as a kind of shelter that helps them with changes in temperature. Although they look very hard, some, like the leatherback turtle, are thin and flexible. Not everything is as it seems at first glance!

We are going to another world in good company

When you go on a trip, you have to be prepared for new adventures. You will encounter people and other species different from you, just as the vegetation and the shape of the mountains also change. Furthermore, we cannot carry our expectations and customs with us in our backpack, but we must be open to the way of life of the destination.

Together with them, we have passed through various countries and we have seen how everything was transforming from one place to another. Different faces and colors, dishes of food that we had never tried, music, dancing and above all a lot of fun. Changes are always exciting!

But we also have to say that we have been a little worried because we were not sure how we were going to return. However, sea turtles have a perfect sense of direction and know how to return to the same beach where they were born even if they have traveled thousands and thousands of kilometers away.

They are very homemade and that is where they will lay their eggs. Tourism and hunting are their main enemies, and small turtles can find themselves in serious trouble when they try to reach the sea for the first time. You should know that this animal is in danger of extinction, which means that you should not buy or consume anything that has to do with them. They are part of the planet and we must take care of them!

Have you ever seen sea turtles? Do you know other species that are also in danger of extinction?
