Did you know that without plants life on earth would not be possible?
Our planet is full of trees and plants of all kinds, which vary from one another depending on where they are found. We tend to look at them as if they were only elements that decorate our environment, making it more beautiful. However, without plants, living on Earth would be impossible. You know why?
Green with V for Life
Plants, although we see them as inert beings, that is, so still that it seems as if they have no life, they do have it. In fact, it is thanks to them that life on planet Earth is possible. Had it ever occurred to you to think that our existence depended on them?
The function that plants perform is to provide oxygen to the environment. In case you don't know, oxygen is the very air that we breathe. However, their needs are much less than ours, so during their breathing, they eliminate more oxygen than they take in.
But in addition to breathing, plants carry out photosynthesis. What is this? Well, it is your own nutrition to be able to continue growing strong and healthy. And they do it thanks to chlorophyll; a green substance found in the leaves and which is responsible for them having this color. Through it they transform sunlight into food.
During this interesting process, plants release oxygen. Thus, not only do they breathe and live, but so can the rest of the species on the planet. But this is not all! Plants are, in turn, our main form of food.
Cows eat grass, squirrels eat acorns, horses eat hay... Have you never been told how important it is for you to eat fruits and vegetables? Now you know the reason: to grow strong like our plant friends!
How can we take care of plants
Now that you know how essential plants are for the lives of all of us who live on Earth, it is time for you to learn how to take care of them. Human activity causes a lot of destruction in the environment, and this has dire consequences.
If we cut down trees too quickly, we don't give them time to grow back... If we destroy green areas to build buildings, we leave animals homeless and reduce oxygen production... And if we step on and damage the plants, we are destroying our own home.
You already know that our mission is to recover the connection between humans and nature. Therefore, the best thing we can do is start taking care of plants ourselves, and teach adults that they should do it too.
When you go on an excursion with your family or your school to the mountains, remember how dangerous it is to make fires, and make sure that our footprints do not remain where we have passed. We are referring to bags, wrappers, cans and all that garbage that, unfortunately, is left abandoned, damaging our plant friends.
